Roster of Officials and Functionaries

Officers. Current officers of the Society of Dance History Scholars are Susan Manning (Northwestern University), president; Karen Eliot (Ohio State University), recording secretary; Lizbeth Langston (University of California, Riverside), corresponding secretary; and Ginnine Cocuzza, treasurer. .

Board of Directors. In addition to the officers of the society, members of the board of directors are Barbara Browning (New York University), Sherril Dodds (University of Surrey), Nadine George-Graves (University of California, San Diego) Jens Richard Giersdorf (University of Surrey) Veta Goler (Spelman College), Stephen Johnson (University of Toronto), Vida Midgelow (University College Northampton), Nèlida Monés Mestre (Independent Dance Scholar and Adjunct University Lecturer), Terry Monaghan (Goldsmiths College, University of London), Ann Nugent (University College Chichester), Purnima Shah (Duke University), Jacqueline Shea Murphy (University of California, Riverside) Sally R. Sommer (Florida State University), Jody Sperling (Independent Scholar), Yutian Wong (Univesity of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign), Tricia Young (University of Florida), and, ex officio, the chair of the SDHS editorial board. Student representative to the board of directors is Sarah Nixon Gasyna.

Editorial Board. The SDHS editorial board, which governs the publishing program of the society, is chaired by Ann Cooper Albright (Oberlin College). Current members of the board include Theresa Buckland (De Montfort University), Darcy Callison (York University), Claude Conyers (independent scholar, Holmes, New York), Karen Eliot (Ohio State University), Jennifer Fisher (University of California, Irvine), Nadine George (University of California, San Diego), David Gere (University of California, Los Angeles), Marion Kant (University of Pennsylvania), Madeleine M. Nichols (New York Public Library), Cecelia Olsson (Stockholm University) and Judy Van Zile (University of Hawaii at Manoa). Ex officio members include the president, corresponding secretary, recording secretary, and the treasurer of SDHS, as well as Kirsten A. Bodensteiner, as SDHS Newlsetter features editor and Jean Van Delinder as SDHS Newsletter editor.

Committee Chairs. Standing committees of the society are the Academic Affairs Committee, the Fund-Raising Committee, the Long-Range Planning Committee, the Membership Committee, and the Nominating Committee. Ad hoc committees are formed to plan programs for annual conferences, to judge submissions for annual awards, and to perform various tasks in the interests of the society.

Constance Valis Hill (Hampshire College) is acting chair of the Academic Affairs Committee; Lynn Garafola (Barnard College) is chair of the Fund-Raising Committee; Shelley C. Berg (Southern Methodist University) is chair of the Long-Range Planning Committee; Janice Ross (Stanford University) is chair of the Membership Committee; and Ellen Graff (California State University, Long Beach) is chair of the Nominating Committee.

Working Group Chairs. Tricia Henry Young (Florida State University) is chair of the Dance History Teachers Working Group; Patricia W. Rader (Cataloger and Reference Librarian, Dance Division, New York Public Library for the Performing Arts) is chair of the Early Dance Working Group; Joan L. Erdman (Columbia College Chicago) is chair of the Ethnicity and Dance Working Group; Debra Sowell (Brigham Young University) is chair of the Interdisciplinary Approaches to Nineteenth Century Dance Working Group; Sherril Dodds (University of Surrey) is Chair of the Popular, Social and Vernacular Dance Working Group; Thom Hecht is chair of the Practice-as-Research Working Group; Jody Sperling is chair of the Reconstruction Working Group; and Sarah Nixon (University of Toronto) is chair of the Students in SDHS Working Group.

Other Functionaries. Julie Ahlander (Brigham Young University) is the assistant to the SDHS treasurer, who is responsible for membership management as well as the society’s financial affairs. Linda J. Tomko (University of California, Riverside) is the SDHS delegate to the American Council of Learned Societies. Jean Van Delinder (Oklahoma State University) is the managing editor of the SDHS newsletter, for which Kirsten Bodensteiner (independent scholar, currently in Cambodia) serves as features editor. Hannah Kosstrin and Krisanto Pranata (University of California, Riverside) are Web site editor and Webmaster, respectively.
